Rankin Inlet's Sports Star: Jordin Tootoo
Rankin Inlet is home to hockey star Jordin Tootoo. Jordin is the first player of Inuit descent to play in the NHL, and now is a forward with the Milwaukee Admirals.
In the 2004-2005 USHL season, Tootoo scored 22 points (10 goals -12 assists) and 137 penalty minutes in 59 games with the Admirals.
Jordin has played in 71 career NHL contests for the Nashville Predators, including the team's opening game in the the 2005-2006 NHL season.

As the first Inuit sports celebrity, Jordin is a role-model for young people all over Nunavut, but especially in Rankin Inlet. A big mural of him hangs in the local youth centre. The Nunavut territorial government has featured Jordin Tootoo and four local teenagers on an inspirational poster encouraging young people to stay in school and set goals; Jordin is spokesperson for the National Aboriginal Role Model Program.
